Key Stage 1 (Yr 1&2)

In Year 1 Children begin to make the transition from a play based curriculum in the Early Years to the more formal curriculum of the main school. We spend a lot of time focusing on the key skills and on developing the children's independence and learning behaviours.

Children in Year 1 take a phonic screen check in June and these results are reported to parents at the end of the year.

In Year 2 the academic focus increases while also ensuring the children are becoming as independent as possible in preparation for their transition to the juniors. Children take SATS (government tests) at the end of the year as part of the teacher assessment that is submitted to the government. Parents will receive this information in reports home at the end of the year.
